Petro Gorunovych is a highly accomplished canoe sprint coach with nearly five decades of experience as both an athlete and mentor. He began his paddling journey in 1977 in the USSR, where he quickly distinguished himself as a competitive athlete, earning 2nd place at the USSR Student Championship in the collegiate division. Petro went on to graduate from Ternopil University in 1985 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Science, laying a strong academic foundation for his coaching career.
Since 1985, Petro has devoted himself to coaching canoe sprint athletes at the highest levels of the sport. Over the course of his career, he has guided athletes to World Championship titles, World Cup podiums, and European Championship medals, including the development of three World Champions. Petro also served as the Head Canoe Coach of the Ukrainian Junior National Team, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of international competitors. His deep technical knowledge, disciplined training approach, and commitment to athlete development continue to have a lasting impact on the paddlers he coaches.
